Beach Rules

  • Non-concessioned beach — dogs are tolerated year-round under general Portuguese rules.
  • Owners must clean up after their dogs — bring your own bags.
  • Dogs must have a microchip and be registered; carry your DIAC or pet passport.
  • Potentially dangerous breeds must wear a muzzle and be on a leash no longer than 1 metre.
  • Respect the Natural Park environment — do not disturb nesting storks on the cliffs.

Local Tips

  • 🐾The natural waterfall (Cascata das Cobras) on the left side of the beach is spectacular after rain.
  • 🐾Park near the trailhead in Brejao hamlet — there is no dedicated parking lot.
  • 🐾The cliff descent requires careful footing — not suitable for dogs with mobility issues.
  • 🐾Bring everything you need — no facilities, no shade, no mobile reception on the beach.
  • 🐾Named after fado legend Amalia Rodrigues who had a house on the cliff above.
